I am a bacterial geneticist and freelance artist. I was born and raised in Puerto Rico, where I received my bachelor's degree in Microbiology from the University of Puerto Rico, Humacao. I obtained my PhD degree in Microbiology from the University of California, Davis, where I studied the origin of mutations under stressful conditions. Currently, I am a full-time lecturer in the department of Biological Sciences at Sacramento State. I also work with the CSU-LSAMP & RISE Programs to help increase the number of California State University (CSU) students entering graduate programs.
In addition to Science, I am passionate about increasing the visibility of women, women of color and people from impacted communities in the sciences. I work my passion through coordinating and mentoring students in programs aimed at developing a diverse pool of scientists, Outreach and Art.
